IV&V is a set of project audit activities, performed by an independent third party that can ensure a project is “tracking” and “shaping” according to plan. 

A verification is completed for accuracy on all project related artifacts, work products and deliverables. Finally, a validation is accomplished to determine if the outputs being created fulfill the requirements and specifications outlined at the beginning of the project.

IV&V may seem like unneeded overhead, but for a project that is high risk, complex, and high dollar – it is invaluable.
